What is Art Jewelry

Throughout the ages, humans have demonstrated the never-ending aptitude to collect fine art.  Yet the value of fine art has never been defined by the cost of the materials used in its creation.

Vivid Gems International (VGI) is promoting special recognition for Art Jewelry --- the kind of jewelry can also be considered as fine art.  This concept allows jewelry to be valuated beyond the sum value of its gemstones and precious metal.  In order to objectively define Art Jewelry, VGI proposes that Art Jewelry must include more than gemstones and gold in its construction and the jeweler/artist must include some sense of artistry, spirituality or philosophy in the process of its creation.  The addition of some other materials other than gold for the setting is to provide more variety and uniqueness; in the absence of new materials, the required artistic flair can be accomplished by an extraordinary and impactful use of colored stones.  Art Jewelry should go beyond the sole purpose of making monetary profit for its creator.

Therefore, defining qualities of Art Jewelry would include uniqueness, wider ranges of color and materials and even special craftsmanship.  This differentiates it from “fine jewelry” where the sole purpose is to be used as extra adornment for high fashion.

As humanity is heading relentlessly towards the world of artificial intelligence and autonomous robots.  With increasing dependence on technology and machines, collectors of the future will have renewed appreciation for human craftmanship and creativity like never before.  Even now, we already see the rise of auction prices of fine art in the marketplace.
